5 STEPS TO DEFINE YOUR OWN STYLE

Through the years I had struggles with finding my personal style and I can say you, this road wasn’t easy. I tried to be that girly girl with the heels and cute dress, but in the end I knew this wasn’t my true me. After trying different style, making fashion faux pas and feeling insecure I followed my gut feeling and went defining my style. With a new season on the doorstep I thought it would be great to share the things that helped me…

I can define my style as a tomboy with a minimalistic and sporty style. You will often see me in sneakers and flat shoes and only once in a while with heels. I wear a lot of trousers and jeans but lately I’m also into wearing skirt and dressing – but always with a though touch. I really hope the following steps can help you to find your style too.

1. Inspiration
Are you clueless about your personal style? The first step to find your own style is to find inspiring images of people who have a style you like. Go start pinning on Pinterest (check my style inspiration here) or following interesting blogs on Bloglovin – if you find mine interesting, follow me here. If you got a stack of images it’s time to analyze them. What to they have in common? Write this down and put a label on it!

2. Dress up for yourself
Of course, everybody tells a little story about themselves while choosing what they wear. From an editor of a magazine to a guy who loves to listen to hard rock – we all dress up in the name of our image. But while finding your style you need to go leave this all behind a go to the core of your style. What do you like to wear? Where do you feel comfortable in? Do you have a job where a type of style is requested.

3. Let your best features speak
Every woman has her best features. Is there something people compliment you on? Whether it’s your skin tone or your hourglass figure, wearing clothes that play up your best assets always looks stylish and give you a confidence boost which is the best accessories.

4. Find signature pieces
It’s time to read your closet and collect the items your where most of the time or the ones you have in several styles. Like those striped tops, skinny jeans or your collection of sneakers. All together they give an insight in your style and what works and what not. Personally I saw all these heels I didn’t wear for months and I’m still so happy I could sell them and make somebody else happy with them.

5. Never say never + give a personal touch
When you find your style it’s still interesting to keep you eyes open and never say never to things you didn’t like at the first time. I really didn’t like wearing dresses and skirts because they were way to feminine for me. But by trying out new things – like those dresses and skirts – and style them in a way I really feel comfortable in I kept surprising myself. Really something I recommend you to do the same. Good luck!
